«Vanity Fair» dedicates the cover to the remake of horror of Dario Argento and, before taking it to Venice, Tilda Swinton and the whole cast are together:

«When I met Guadagnino in 1996, I had already seen Dario Argento's Suspiria. The first time was at the time of the University, at the Arts Cinema in Cambridge. But I had never met anyone before, with whom to share my enthusiasm as I share it with him. Luca has always been as possessed by the idea of Suspiria. In all our long-term projects and dreams, Suspiria has always been there, underneath everything, a beating pulse. I am very proud of the fact that we have arrived at the bottom, and that Luca has brought the ship to a safe and sound seaport ".

So Tilda Swinton, on the number 35 of Vanity Fair on newsstands until September 5, tells the genesis of the film directed by Luca Guadagnino, in competition at the Venice Film Festival. The story of the cover and the special fashion in the magazine clearly inspired by the film is dedicated to the actress and to the entire cast of Suspiria. Tilda and the other performers of the film (Dakota Johnson, Mia Goth, Chloë Grace Moretz, Jessica Harper, Malgosia Bela) were photographed by Jason Bell in an exclusive production.

In the interview, Swinton tells how she worked on the character of the frightening Madame Blanc, inspired by the choreographer Mary Wigman, a pioneer in Germany between the two wars of the so-called "existential" free dance. "Her most famous creation is Hexentanz (Dance of the Witches, ed) and I refer to her gestures a lot," he explains.

The new Suspiria - unlike the Silver film that took place in Friborg in a classical ballet academy - is set in Berlin at a contemporary dance school in 1977. In those years Tilda was a teenager and, because her father was a military stationed in Germany, she has very vivid memories of the atmosphere of the time. "I remember very well the tragic events at the Munich Olympics seen on television during the summer holidays of 1972, I remember the faces of Ulrike Meinhof and Andreas Baader just arrested, shown everywhere, as if they were rock stars, I remember the detailed searches of my father's car and in general, a feeling of precariousness perhaps physiological at 16 but that, for me, had something even stronger ».

Since she met Guadagnino, Swinton has often worked with him. Their feature films together (The Protagonists, 1999, I Am Love, 2009, and A Bigger Splash, 2015) have all participated in the Venice Film Festival. One of the funniest memories of this artistic friendship and collaboration? "That time we were dressed in mummies with rolls of toilet paper from a bunch of crying children for a Halloween party in Scotland."
