He's already a major new name across much of the world thanks to the record-breaking success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but John Boyega is now among those shortlisted for BAFTA's Rising Star award.

The award, which is voted for by the public, will be handed out at the BAFTA Awards ceremony on Feb. 14 and has an impressive track record in picking future stars. James McAvoy won in 2006, followed by Kristen Stewart in 2010, Tom Hardy in 2011 and Will Poulter in 2014. Last year, Jack O'Connell took home the award. Joining Boyega among the nominees are Brie Larson, heavily tipped for an Oscar nomination for her performance in Room, alongside Taron Egerton, the British actor who had a breakout role in Kingsman: The Secret Service. Egerton is lined up to take the lead in Lionsgate's Robin Hood: Origins.

Making it two U.S. actresses on the list, 50 Shades of Grey star Dakota Johnson is also nominated, as is Bel Powley, who in November won the Gotham Award for best actress for her turn in Diary of a Teenage Girl. The full list of BAFTA nominations are due to be announced on Friday.
